Rodney Scroggins Benefit

I recently received a call from a man named Mark who is the GM over at D’Amico Catering in Minneapolis. He used to work at the Edina D’Amico and over the years, delivered 100’s of boxed lunches to QBP. On September 17th, 2008, Rodney Scroggins, (who has worked for them for 19 years and has always biked to and from work), was hit by a car (hit and run) and found lying in the road about an hour later, then brought to HCMC. He is still in the hospital and recovering from a dislocated shoulder, broken bones and other injuries.

Coworkers have organized a benefit to help with his recovery. All the proceeds will benefit his family.

Benefit:
When: Tuesday, November 18th 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Where: Metropolitan Ballroom
5418 Wayzata Blvd.
$25 in advance, $30 at the door.

For more information or donation: Call Ramanda at D’Amico and Partners: 612-374-1776

Fund:
TCF Bank
121 8th Street South in Minneapolis
Clyde/Bruce Scroggins
In care of Rodney Scroggins

Mark wanted some help spreading the word, I said I’d see what I could do. Please consider supporting, attending or telling your friends about this incredibly important event.

Thanks for your time. :)

Renaissance Bicycles

There is a shop in North Carolina, Renaissance Bicycles, who take older, vintage frames, add modern components, and create worthy masterpieces. To some degree, this is what we do at the CRC Cykel Garage. We don't repaint/refinish frames, but we create unique, one-of-a-kind rides from sweet steel road bikes. In the que at the moment we have a very nice Panasonic DX6000. I've gone back and forth on whether or not I want to turn it into a single speed, but at this point I'm leaning toward returning the SunTour Sprint kit to it. Pictures will be posted as the project is completed.

I Don't Know What To Say, Other Than "God Dammit!"

yet another STOLEN BIKE, on the local scene, this time John Franke's XtraCycle. From Mr. Franke, via email:

"Friday night,9/19/08, my beloved Xtracyle (a wedding gift from my wife) was stolen right from our locked porch. I got out there moments after the d-bag split. I have put up posters around the neighborhood and am hoping to hear something back from them. This bike is a huge part of our families gettin'-around-ability. Please be kind enough to spread the word to whom ever may be of help, has an eye on the streets, and/or is looking to put a pole into the front wheel - which is fine by me I can replace that easily."

It specs are as follows:
- Silver Marin Frame
- 8 speed Nexus hub and wheel (which I built)
- Wide loader on the left side
- One black leather handle bar grip on the left
- an Our Own End and Chrome sticker on the board
-1 Bag of dog shit I never got around to tossing

My contact info is johnfranke@gmail.com

Thank you very much,

John Franke

Hendrix' Bike Recovered!

Good on MATT DUFFIN for finding Hendrix' bike not two blocks from where it was stolen. The bike has been returned, but will need some work as the young punks who gaffled it seemed to have joyrode the hell out of it. Meanwhile, 4130 frontman J. Brandt has had his black Spectre 29'er stolen. No details yet, but this shit is getting to be epidemic proportions... Lock that shit up, people!

Kill, yes I said KILL, all Fucking Bike Thieves

I'm getting tired of hearing about this crap. Here's a young man, with a brain injury, who's still independent enough to ride around his neighborhood on a 3-wheeler. Some parasite thinks it's ok to steal it. If you see this bike, call the cops, let us know, and beat the perp with a baseball bat...

From the owner's Mother:here is a front view of the 3-wheeler that Hendrix used to ride all the time. It sits up higher than the chopper one that we have that needs repairs and was much more comfortable for his size. It was stolen from the stop sign on 34th and Pleasant Ave So. (Minneapolis) The bike is red, made by RETRIKE, has a small black pouch on the back seat and two plastic tubs were recently bolted to the back for carrying stuff. There is a hand brake on the left side and I believe it has 5 gears.

Another Stolen Cross-Check

From Craig's List. Please be on the lookout, and keep an eye on your bikes!

*!* STOLEN *!* Red Surly Cross Check, Yellow tape and fenders - $100 (NE Minneapolis)

Reply to: sale-755842273@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-07-15, 10:18AM CDT

Someone busted into my garage this morning. Now my main mode of transportation has been lifted, what a drag!

It's hard to miss, custom drop bars that flare out at the bottom (sort of a mix of mustache and drop) in YELLOW tape. YELLOW fenders, black rear rack, single speed, RED frame.

It's registered with the police and I have the original purchase paperwork.

I love this bike, I've taken cross country, had it for years, and tweaked to fun commuting beauty. I'm offering a $100 reward for a safe return.

Thanks

yes, it has been too long since our last missive. Account that to having lost my camera on a blurry Wednesday night ride, and my general slackness. But fear not, I've got my eye on a new Olympus. Cut Off Their Fucking Hands!-EDIT-BIKE RECOVERED!

God, I FUCKING HATE BIKE THIEVES, especially thieves of my friends bikes, bikes that I have helped build, and watched friends enjoy riding. If you see anyone other than Erika riding this chrome Bianchi S.a.S.S., knock them to the fucking ground and put a boot to their throat.

Just this week Erika alerted us that she has recovered her Bianchi S.a.S.S. from the Minneapolis Property Crimes Recovery Unit. F'n awesome, I say!

We're Living in a Mad World

The ARTCRANK! 2008 opening was a smash, as a rumoured 800+ freaks and geeks slammed into One On One for a full-fledged sardine sauna of screen printed velo collusion. Thankfully, no one (read: me) went face dowwwn due to excessive drink, (though I know there was excessive drink.) Madison pedal pirates descended like scurvy knaves on the scene. Here, D-Pow herd 3 Rollo's into shape.

Chequamegon King delivers Cetma-powered pink glove radness.

I Want To Be A Part of It...

There truly is no place like New York City on this planet. Here's a glimpse of what we saw on a recent excursion to the Big Apple.

The famous Coffee Bar neon sign is a classic landmark near Union Square.

NYC Velo in the East Village is cool shop with great service and, if you ask nicely, they'll turn you on to some of the best mexican food in town, right around the corner.

Dave's Quality Meat. This place on East Third is fantastic. Highly sought after kicks, and skateboards + fixed gears. Asa & Massan were super cool and friendly and both want to ride in the Stupor Bowl next year, aint' that right?

The display case at DQM is an old meat cooler. Boss.

A sad reminder in Parkslope, Brooklyn. R.I.P.

Kim & Darlene of Gorilla Coffee rode Vespa scooters from Brooklyn to Minneapolis last year. How cool is that? Their coffee is roasted on site, and it is excellent.

King Kog, how I miss thee...I really tried to get in to King Kog. Their posted hours are 12-7. I made my way down to Marcy Avenue a bit early on Friday, so I walked around the neighborhood, had a cup of tea, and returned a little after 12 to a still locked-down storefront. No problem, I thought, I know what retail is like. Another lap around the area, returning at 12:25 and still no King Kog. Damn. Left a CRC sticker on the window to let 'em know I was there. Maybe next time.

Finally, are the rumours true?!?!?
